El Despertar de las Hormigas

The awakening of the ants is an intimate drama where Isabel’s political family pushes her to have another child, a boy. Isabel is a 28-year-old woman who has never questioned what she wants. She is a good mother, wife, daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law. She does what is expected of her and this is what she teaches to her daughters Valery and Nicole. The film unfolds in San Mateo, a hot town, full of insects capable of devouring anything that is left within reach, a small town but big hell where tradition prevails as a family rule.

Isabel’s intimacy is a subject of public scrutiny. A series of revelations about her present and future leads Isabel to face herself, her environment and her family, developing an emotional crisis that will only end when Isabel awakens and takes a stand on her life.
