SUBSTANCE FILMS is an independent production company based in Costa Rica that brings intimate stories to national and international audiences. We dare to give voice to our emotions. The film The Awakening of the Ants directed and written by one of the company’s founders, Antonella Sudasassi Furniss, was the first Central American film to be nominated for a Goya Award, and the first Costa Rican film to win a Platino Award.
